[SMM News Flash] On December 15, 2024, the Anhui Provincial Office of Ecological Environment Protection Committee issued a provincial-level orange alert for heavy pollution weather, initiating a Level II emergency response at 12:00 a.m. on December 16. The affected areas included seven cities: Huaibei, Bozhou, Suzhou, Bengbu, Fuyang, Huainan, and Lu'an. According to joint analysis and assessment by the Yangtze River Delta region, air quality across the province showed improvement from the afternoon of December 18 to December 19, with air quality mainly rated as good, meeting the conditions for lifting the provincial-level orange alert as stipulated in the "Anhui Province Heavy Pollution Weather Emergency Plan." After deliberation, it was decided to lift the provincial-level orange alert for heavy pollution weather at 12:00 p.m. on December 18 and terminate the Level II emergency response. Following the lifting of the alert, an SMM survey revealed that some secondary lead smelters in Anhui province, which had shut down furnaces two days prior, would require half a month to resume operations; other smelters have already begun raising temperatures and are expected to start producing lead gradually during the night. In the short term, secondary lead supply may remain tight.
