US Aluminum Production: Primary Down, Recycled Slightly Up in September

According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the US primary aluminum production in September was 55,000 mt, down 8.3% YoY; while the production of recycled aluminum was 286,000 mt, up slightly by 0.7% YoY. Of the recycled aluminum, 160,000 mt came from new aluminum scrap, and 126,000 mt from old aluminum scrap.

In the first nine months, the US cumulative primary aluminum production was 507,000 mt, down 10.1% YoY; the cumulative recycled aluminum production was 2,640,000 mt, up 2.3% YoY. Of this, 1,460,000 mt was recycled from new aluminum scrap, and 1,170,000 mt from old aluminum scrap.
