Bernd Lange, Chairman of the European Parliament's Trade Committee, recently pointed out in an interview with German broadcaster n-tv that with Trump expected to take office soon, the EU is beginning to show some flexibility on the issue of taxing Chinese enterprises. Both sides are approaching an alternative solution regarding the import tariffs on Chinese EVs.
Lange mentioned, "We are close to reaching an agreement, and the Chinese side may commit to providing EVs to the EU at the lowest prices." However, he did not disclose specific details. He emphasized that this move would help eliminate the unfair distortions in competition caused by subsidies, which was the original reason for the tariff hike. Some analysts believe that Lange's statement might be an attempt to find a flexible solution for the EU to reach a consensus with Chinese enterprises. The EU needs to realize that China does not pose a risk, and decoupling from China could expose the EU to greater threats.
