The European Union (EU) has set a plan to impose tariffs on electric vehicles produced in China, according to a document released on August 20th. There are modifications and reductions in tariffs, such as the reduction of Tesla's additional tariff rate to 9%, lower than the previous 20.8%. Other manufacturers, including MG Motor, the parent company of Volvo Geely, and BYD, are also facing reduced additional tariffs, at 36.3%, 19.3%, and 17%, respectively. The final tariffs are subject to a vote by the 27 EU member states and will be announced before October 31st. If the number of dissenting votes does not exceed the total of 15 EU member states, the tariffs will be implemented and remain in effect for five years. Meanwhile, similar measures may be imposed on dairy products, pork, wine, and high-displacement vehicles from Europe and the United States in China, which are currently under negotiation. In the consultative vote in July, 12 EU member states supported the temporary tariffs, 4 voted against, and 11 abstained, indicating that the situation is unlikely to change significantly.
