Ternary Battery Share in Domestic Vehicle Batteries Gradually Rebounding Amid Fluctuating Demand Growth

【Gradual Recovery of Ternary Battery Proportion in Domestically Sold Vehicles' Qualification Battery Installation】Cui Dongshu, Secretary-General of the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), posted on the 18th that the proportion of ternary batteries installed in domestically sold vehicles with qualification certificates is gradually recovering. The demand growth for power battery installation is fluctuating. In 2019, demand grew by 10%; in 2020, 64GWh of power batteries were installed in domestically sold vehicles, with a demand growth of 2%; in 2021, 155GWh of power batteries were installed, marking a demand growth of 143%; in 2022, 295GWh were installed, with a demand growth of 91%; and in 2023, 388GWh were installed. In July 2024, 42GWh of lithium batteries were installed, a year-on-year increase of 29%. Among them, 11.4GWh of ternary batteries were installed, accounting for 27%, lower than the same period last year; while 30GWh of lithium iron phosphate batteries were installed, accounting for 72%, indicating a slowdown in the growth of ternary batteries. From January to July, 245GWh of lithium batteries were installed, a year-on-year increase of 29%.
