[SMM Daily Commentary on Hot-rolled Coil: Market Plunges Again? Trading of Hot-rolled Coil Weakens] Today, the futures market for hot-rolled coil experienced a volatile decline, closing at 3,487 in the afternoon, with a decrease of 0.97%. The futures market fluctuated weakly, and trading activity was relatively subdued. Downstream buyers mainly purchased on an as-needed basis, resulting in weak trading of hot-rolled coil. According to SMM research, blast furnace maintenance increased week-on-week this week, with a maintenance impact of 205,000 tonnes on hot-rolled production, also up from the previous week. Currently, the pressure on the supply side of hot-rolled coil is expected to ease only slightly in the short term, while demand remains resilient. The recent anti-dumping measures on exports are projected to have a generally moderate impact on short-term demand. Inventory accumulation at high levels is moderating. Overall, conflicts still need to be resolved. On the macroeconomic front, geopolitical risks have escalated, further intensifying the recessionary trade in commodity markets, leading to significant market volatility. In conclusion, hot-rolled coil prices are expected to fluctuate weakly in the short term.
