On July 10, 2024, the United States and Mexico issued a joint statement on actions to protect the North American steel and aluminum markets. The two countries will work together to prevent tax evasion on steel and aluminum, enhance the transparency of import origins, and strengthen the North American steel and aluminum supply chain. To support this joint statement, the United States will impose new requirements on certain steel and aluminum imports from Mexico. If the melting and pouring process is not carried out in Mexico, the United States, and Canada, tariffs will be imposed in accordance with Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962.
