Lithium Battery Enterprises Face Performance Decline, with Expectations of Industry Recovery in H2 2024

The performance of 12 lithium enterprises has declined, and institutions predict that the industry chain is expected to recover in the second half of the year. According to incomplete statistics, among the 14 lithium battery industry chain enterprises that have recently disclosed their first-half performance forecasts, 12 have experienced a decline in performance, with the net profit of 9 enterprises falling by more than 60%. The decline in product prices is a common reason for the pressure on the performance of these lithium battery enterprises. Affected by the imbalance between supply and demand, the prices of domestic lithium battery industry chain, from materials to battery cells, have been falling since last year. Taking lithium carbonate, a benchmark for lithium battery industry chain prices, as an example, its price fell from over 500,000 yuan per ton at the beginning of last year to around 100,000 yuan per ton by the end of the year, representing an overall decline of over 80%. Entering 2024, the price of lithium carbonate continued to decline, but the decline narrowed, and the current price of lithium carbonate is fluctuating at a low level. According to the latest data from Shanghai Steelhome, on July 11, the average price of battery-grade lithium carbonate was reported at 89,000 yuan per ton, down 11% from the beginning of the year and over 70% from the same period last year.
