[NDRC: Continuation of crude steel production control in 2024, scrap steel utilization reaching 300 million tons by the end of 2025] The National Development and Reform Commission and other departments issued a notice on the "Special Action Plan for Energy Conservation and Carbon Reduction in the Steel Industry". The notice proposed that the crude steel production control will continue in 2024. By the end of 2025, the proportion of production capacity above the benchmark level of energy efficiency in the steel industry will reach 30%, and production capacity below the benchmark level of energy efficiency will complete technological transformation or be eliminated. Key areas for air pollution prevention and control should further improve energy consumption, environmental protection, quality, safety, technology, and other requirements in the steel industry, and gradually eliminate restricted processes and equipment. By the end of 2025, the utilization of scrap steel will reach 300 million tons, and the proportion of electric arc furnace steel production in total crude steel production will strive to increase to 15%.
