【EU proposes new version of ELV recycling rules】On February 14, 2024, the Ecson Environmental Technology European Station reported that the EU is proposing to expand the dismantling obligation under the End-of-Life Vehicles Regulation (ELVR). The European Recycling Industries Confederation (EuRIC), the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA), and the European Association of Automotive Suppliers (CLEPA) outlined their views on the proposed expansion. The proposed ELV regulation foresees new dismantling obligations for parts and components of end-of-life vehicles (ELVs) before shredding. The regulation aims to:
- Increase reuse, refurbishment, and remanufacturing;
- Address significant safety issues (such as towing or SLI batteries);
- Achieve higher levels of material efficiency, which cannot be achieved through subsequent shredding technologies for material extraction and separation (such as catalytic converters).
