Cobalt resources are highly concentrated globally: According to statistics from the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the global proven cobalt ore reserves are 8.3 million tons. The distribution of cobalt resources is extremely uneven, with countries such as the Democratic Republic of Congo and Australia being the most enriched. Congo (Kinshasa) accounts for 47.93% of cobalt resources, followed by Australia at 17.97% and Indonesia at 7.19%. Other countries have smaller distributions.
