US Virgin Islands to Utilize Solar + Battery System for 30% of Electricity Needs

The US Virgin Islands plans to meet 30% of its electricity needs using a solar + battery system. To achieve this goal, Honeywell Process Solutions will install the first batch of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) for renewable energy developer VIElectron. These systems will complement six solar facilities, including those on St. Thomas, St. Croix, and St. John. Specifically, lithium-ion BESS will be deployed alongside the solar systems, adding 124MWh of energy storage capacity. The solar facilities combined will provide a total of 140MW of solar capacity. It is expected that the solar + storage system will meet 30% of the entire island's energy consumption needs.
