Suniva, a solar cell manufacturer that has been in a state of shutdown since 2017, recently announced its plan to upgrade and restart its factory in Norcross, Georgia. The first phase of the restart will create 240 jobs. Starting in the spring of 2024, the factory's annual capacity will increase to 1GW. Suniva said that the second phase could further expand the factory to 2.5GW.

Suniva was once regarded as the largest solar cell and component manufacturer in the United States, with factories in Georgia and Michigan. After claiming that it could not compete with cheap solar imports, Suniva filed for bankruptcy in 2017.
