SHANGHAI, Apr 24 (SMM) - The output of solar cells stood at 318 GW throughout 2022, with a monthly average output of 26.5 GW, and the average capacity utilisation rate was 56.18%. In 2023, the total output is expected to be 512.7 GW, with a monthly average of 42 GW.
Monthly supply review and forecast in 2023:
Operating rates of various companies in the PV sector have risen since the first quarter of 2023. The average operating rate of solar cell makers grew apace from 65.6% in January to 89% in March. The output from January to March stood at 29.8 GW, 35.64 GW and 42 GW respectively. SMM presumes that the average operating rate of solar cell companies will surge to 97.1% in April, and the output will reach 46 GW.
Most solar cell manufacturers will run at full capacity. Demand for different types of solar cells diverged. The PERC-M10 solar cell market saw a supply surplus, while the supply of the PERC-G12 and TOPCon-M10 solar cells was relatively tight. Some PERC182 solar cell-based production lines were upgraded to PERC210 solar cell-based ones in April. It is estimated that G12 solar cell output will surge by 200 million pieces in April. The TOPCon solar cell capacity is currently ramping up, and a new company will begin to produce TOPCon solar cells in April. The supply will increase month by month.
