Vishy Tirupattur, chief fixed-income strategist at Morgan Stanley, warned Tuesday that the turmoil in the global banking sector is not over.

He noted in an interview that an increasingly tight credit environment and the Fed's continued hawkish stance could create more problems for the banking system.

Tirupattur said he expects companies to face liquidity-related tensions.

Last month, the market was on edge when Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) and Signature Bank collapsed in quick succession. The event, which marked the worst banking crisis since 2008, led to a plunge in regional bank share prices and left financial markets in a state of disarray throughout March.

Mike Wilson, chief equity strategist at Morgan Stanley, also warned in his latest report on Sunday that the credit crunch triggered by the SVB debacle has begun, with data showing banks have significantly tightened their lending standards. He wrote that the past two weeks have seen the biggest drop in lending on record. The pace of deposit losses has accelerated in the month since SVB's bankruptcy.

He added that $1 trillion in deposits have been withdrawn from the US banking system since the Fed began raising rates a year ago.

Tirupattur also said that although the last "casualty" has been a few weeks ago, and the big banks and the government have also stepped in to stabilise the situation since, but there are still many things that can happen in the future.

"The fact remains that the entire banking system is dependent on the Fed's tools," he said, referring to the discount window and the Bank Term Funding Program: " ...about $140 billion in borrowing is happening."

"To us, this indicates that there are still a lot of residual liquidity-related strains within the banking system. So the banking challenges we face are not over yet." He added.
