SHANGHAI, Apr 3 (SMM) - Last Friday, the average price of Ni 1.5% ore dipped $2/wmt from the previous Friday to $59/wmt on a CIF basis. Nickel ore shipments from the Philippines stood low as the rainy season in the country did not pass, resulting in insufficient nickel ore supply in China. On the demand side, the NPI prices trended lower to 1,090 yuan/mtu last week, weighing on nickel ore mines. Besides, the NPI plants were less willing to buy nickel ore in fear of a further fall in NPI prices. Mines got higher profit margins than the downstream sectors, and NPI manufacturers expected the mines to lower their quotes further. Therefore, there was still a stalemate among nickel ore mines, traders and buyers. Short-term CIF prices of Ni 1.5% ore may fall on the sharp decline in NPI prices.
