Tesla Sales in Australia Soar

According to foreign media reports, the number of Tesla vehicles on Australian roads has increased significantly in recent months, suggesting that consumer attitudes towards electric vehicles in the country are finally starting to shift. Australia has one of the lowest EV sales of all developed countries.

Australia's Labor government, which took office last year, introduced tax exemptions for new electric vehicles. The government is also working on fuel-efficiency standards that could ban the most polluting vehicles from the road to make more room for electric vehicles.

Electric vehicles accounted for less than 1 per cent of new car sales in Australia a year ago as supply chain hurdles caused by the COVID-19 lockdowns hampered vehicle transport. Last month, this proportion rose to 6.8%.
