China Crude Steel, Pig Iron and Steel Product Production Rose in First 10 days of February

Data from the China Iron and Steel Association showed that in the first 10 days of February 2023, key steel enterprises in China produced a total of 20.6211 million mt of crude steel, 18.9142 million mt of pig iron, and 19.3355 million mt of steel products. Based on this, the entire country’s daily output of crude steel in this ten-day period is estimated at 2.5314 million mt, an increase of 2.89% from the previous 10-day period, versus 2.3281 million mt for pig iron, up 4.10%, and 3.5492 million mt for steel products, up 1.43%.

The project is intended to replace the aging Hadong coal-fired Units 2 and 3 with a new high-efficiency LNG combined-cycle power plant, but their formal retirement date, the commissioning date of the new gas-fired plant, current coal consumption, or the volume of coal demand expected to be displaced is not being disclosed yet.

Western production totaled 6.072 million short tons during the week, accounting for approximately 55.4% of national output. Appalachian and Interior production stood at 3.274 million and 1.607 million short tons, respectively. Wyoming was the largest individual state producer listed in the article, with weekly output of 4.624 million short tons.
