Li Kuiwen, spokesman for the General Administration of Customs and director of the Department of Statistics and Analysis, said at the meeting that in the first quarter, China's exports of mechanical and electrical products totaled 3.05 trillion yuan, an increase of 9.8 percent, accounting for 58.4 percent of the total export value. among them, exports of solar cells, lithium batteries and cars increased by 100.8%, 53.7% and 83.4%, respectively.

Among them, in the first quarter, China exported 886.74 billion yuan of mechanical and electrical products to countries along the "Belt and Road Initiative" route, an increase of 14.2 percent, accounting for 54.2 percent of the total value of China's exports to countries along the route, driving China's exports to countries along the route by 7.8 percent. Among them, the export of solar cells and electric manned vehicles increased by 1.3 times and 9.2 times respectively.

In the first quarter, China exported 545.62 billion yuan of mechanical and electrical products to the European Union, an increase of 16.6 percent, accounting for 63.1 percent of exports to the European Union, of which exports of new energy products such as electric manned cars, solar cells and lithium-ion batteries increased by 3.8 times, 1.4 times and 66.2%, respectively. In the same period, exports of labor-intensive products to the European Union totaled 142.25 billion yuan, an increase of 10.2 percent.

In addition, in the first quarter, China's imports of mechanical and electrical products totaled 1.71 trillion yuan, up 2.7 percent, accounting for 40.8 percent of the total import value, of which imports of integrated circuits, automatic data processing equipment and their parts, and electric manned vehicles increased by 12.4 percent, 14.9 percent and 15.7 percent, respectively.
