, SES (, formerly the world's leading developer and manufacturer of SolidEnergy Systems), high-performance rechargeable hybrid lithium-metal batteries for electric vehicles, today unveiled ApolloTM lithium-metal batteries at its first SES Battery World event, with a capacity of 107A, which is currently the world's largest single lithium-metal battery and the first public display of a single lithium-metal battery exceeding 100Ah in the world. At the same time, SES also announced that it is building a new super factory in Jiading, Shanghai, with a total area of 30000 square meters, which is scheduled to be completed in 2023. When completed, it will be the largest lithium metal battery factory in the world.
The annual SES Battery World was held online in the United States on November 3 and in South Korea and China on November 4, respectively.
In July 2021, SES announced a final merger agreement with Ivanhoe Capital acquisition (hereinafter referred to as "Ivanhoe") under the symbol: IVAN) of the New York Stock Exchange. Battery Network learned at this event that the two sides are expected to complete the merger and listing in December this year, and that the combined company will operate under the name of SES and be listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol "SES". With this combined listing, SES is expected to raise $490 million, together with the company's own funds, and SES is expected to have about $680 million in cash at the end of the deal, enough to support the company's operations over the next two or three years.
The capacity of ApolloTM battery is up to 107Ah, the weight is only 0.982kg, and the energy density is 417Wh/kg, 935Whhand L. after Discharge tests at room temperature for 10 hours, 3 hours and 1 hour, ApolloTM batteries show extremely high capacity and energy density.
At present, several leading automakers and next-generation power battery companies around the world are accelerating their research and development, hoping to become the first 100Ah lithium-metal battery in the world. I am glad we have done so. We will continue to work with OEM partners to continuously optimize this battery and put it into commercial mass production. Through joint efforts with our partners, we are confident that we will be the first company to commercialize the next generation of lithium metal batteries. " Hu Qichao, founder and CEO of SES, said, "the ApolloTM battery needs further testing and optimization, but the performance it has shown so far has made us very excited. Cars need to work in different operating environments and temperatures, whether cold, hot, fast or slow, need to have a stable performance. Therefore, the power battery of electric vehicle needs to be able to provide high energy density in a wide range of temperature and power. From the data point of view, the performance of hybrid lithium metal batteries is much better than that of solid-state batteries. "
At the event site, Hu Qichao also introduced three parallel development directions of SES: new material development platform HermesTM, vehicle-grade large cell production process development capability ApolloTM, and artificial intelligence safety software AvatarTM for battery health monitoring.
It is reported that SES is working with General Motors and Hyundai to launch automotive grade lithium metal battery A samples next year and officially start commercial mass production of lithium metal batteries in 2025. SES is currently the only company in the world that has signed a joint development agreement with mainstream automakers on lithium metal battery A samples. Hu Qichao predicts that SES will be the first to achieve large-scale loading of lithium-metal batteries around 2025.
