SMM, Oct. 26: after two previous online auctions of spodumene concentrate, Pilbara, one of Australia's largest spodumene concentrate producers, held its third spodumene concentrate auction from 2pm to 02:45. The final auction price was set at US $2350 / ton, another all-time high, up 5% from the second auction price!
Although this price is slightly lower than the previous market estimate of 2500-2800 US dollars / ton, but still successfully set an all-time high. Previous data showed that Pilbara's first spodumene concentrate auction price was $1250 per tonne and the second auction price was $2240 per tonne, up 79.2 per cent from the initial auction price.
It is reported that the volume of ore in the auction is 10000 tons and the taste is 5.2% Murray 5.5%. According to the price of the ore at auction, the cost of lithium carbonate rose to 172500 yuan / ton.
The historical price of SMM metal shows that as of October 26, the average spot price of domestic battery-grade lithium carbonate was 192500 yuan / ton, up 139500 yuan / ton from the beginning of the year, or 263.2%.

As for the future trend of lithium carbonate, SMM believes that the market is expected to have a tight supply of lithium carbonate from November to December due to the demand for lithium iron phosphate superimposed by the impact of winter supply reduction in Qinghai, so its price upward trend is still there. On Oct. 24, Zangge Holdings, which makes battery-grade lithium carbonate, said on the investor interactive platform that the low temperature in winter would have a certain impact on the company's lithium salt production, and its output would be reduced by about 30-40%.
According to the spot price of SMM metal, the spot price of spodumene concentrate (6% CIF China) averaged $1215 / ton as of October 26, up $797.5 / ton from the beginning of the year, or 191%.

SMM said that at present, the inventory of spodumene concentrate in China continues to clear, and the order price of spodumene concentrate is expected to rise to about US $1500 / ton in the fourth quarter, with the arrival price rising significantly and smelter profits being squeezed.
