Since Xiaomi announced the car-building, opinions have been divided on where to locate Xiaomi's car-building headquarters. Previously, the Future Automobile Daily learned from Anhui high-tech industry and investment sources and other sources that Anhui SASAC is in contact with Xiaomi Automobile to introduce Xiaomi Automobile into Hefei. Before that, there were rumors on the Internet that Xiaomi car-building would be settled in Shanghai. However, Wang Hua, general manager of Xiaomi's public relations department, responded to the comments on Weibo: the information is not true, everything is subject to official disclosure, and we must not be credulous.

On March 30 this year, Xiaomi Group issued an announcement on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, officially announcing its entry into the field of car building. Xiaomi said in the announcement that it plans to set up a wholly-owned subsidiary to take charge of the smart electric vehicle business. The initial investment is 10 billion yuan, with an estimated investment of 10 billion US dollars in the next 10 years. Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun will also serve as chief executive of the smart electric vehicle business.

On July 28 this year, Lei Jun said on Weibo that Xiaomi launched the recruitment of its self-driving department, recruiting the first batch of 500 self-driving technicians to develop its own L4 intelligent driving capability.

Lei Jun said on Weibo on Aug. 3 that the car project is in full swing and is still at a very early stage and will be reported to you when significant progress is made.
