The loading capacity of lithium iron phosphate batteries has doubled for three consecutive months compared with the same period last year.

SMM: China Automotive Power Battery Industry Innovation Alliance released the latest power battery monthly information on November 11. Data show that in October, the number of power batteries loaded in our country was 5.9GWhh, up 44.0% from the same period last year, down 10.8% from the previous month, and continued to maintain the growth trend compared with the same period last year. Among them, the total loading of ternary lithium batteries was 3.4GWh, up 15.7 percent from the same period last year, down 19.1 percent from the previous month; and lithium iron phosphate batteries totaled 2.4GWhs, up 127.5 percent from the same period last year and 3.5 percent from the previous month, and has achieved an increase of more than 100 percent year-on-year for three consecutive months.

According to the data, the loading rate of lithium iron phosphate battery is much faster than that of ternary lithium battery. At the same time, in the first 10 months of this year, China's power battery installed a total of 40GWH, ternary lithium battery accounted for 67.4% of the total installed capacity, lithium iron phosphate battery accounted for 31.9% of the total installed capacity, and the share of total installed capacity increased by 1.6 percentage points compared with January-September.

"(October power battery loading data) shows that the economy and safety of lithium iron phosphate batteries have been recognized." Wang Rongjin, a partner at Jinbang Capital in Shanghai, said, "Lithium iron phosphate has the possibility of loading more than ternary lithium, and the two routes should go hand in hand."

The hot sale of the model with lithium iron phosphate battery is the main reason why it exceeds the ternary lithium battery. Tesla, who ranked fourth in the new energy passenger car market in October, announced that the price of the standard battery life upgrade version of the domestic Model 3 would be reduced from 271000 yuan to 249000 yuan, mainly due to the lower cost of lithium iron phosphate batteries made in Ningde era. Prior to this, the domestic Tesla Model 3 standard battery upgrade is equipped with NCA811 or NCM high-nickel ternary lithium battery, the supplier is mainly LG.

In addition, SAIC Roewe Ei5, Great Wall Ola good cat, BAIC EU5, BYD Tang and other models have also been replaced with lithium iron phosphate batteries this year. Among them, Biadihan, which uses "blade batteries", sold 7545 vehicles in October, up 34.4% from the previous month.

"from the perspective of BOM cost, the difference between lithium iron phosphate battery and ternary lithium battery is about 100yuan / kWh." Wang Rongjin told reporters. According to this cost price, a new energy vehicle with 70 degrees of electricity can save about 7000 yuan by using lithium iron phosphate battery.

In addition to cost, subsidy retrograde is also one of the reasons for the increase in market share of lithium iron phosphate batteries. The previous subsidy policy for new energy vehicles required energy density. The higher the energy density and the longer the mileage, the higher the amount of subsidy. However, the current subsidy policy has been adjusted to no longer pursue energy density and mileage, so car companies prefer to choose lithium iron phosphate batteries with higher safety and lower prices. At present, power battery companies have stepped up research and development efforts to improve the performance of lithium iron phosphate batteries. In the Ningde era, the number of parts and components of the lithium iron phosphate CTP battery pack was reduced by 40%. The volume utilization of the CTP battery pack increased by 15%, the production efficiency increased by 50%, and the manufacturing cost was greatly reduced. BYD's "blade battery" based on lithium iron phosphate can increase volume utilization by more than 50 per cent, reduce manufacturing costs by 30 per cent, and achieve 160Wh/kg energy density. In addition, Guoxuan Hi-Tech also announced that in the first half of this year, the single energy density of the company's lithium iron phosphate battery has exceeded 200 Whhand kg, the energy density of the system has reached 160 Whhand kg, and the cycle life can reach 3000 weeks.

The Huachuang Securities Research report pointed out that compared with ternary materials, lithium iron phosphate has a slightly lower energy density, but has the same range and better safety, and because it does not contain precious metals such as cobalt and nickel, the price fluctuation of lithium iron phosphate is much less than that of ternary materials. conducive to cost control.
