Status Quo of Alumina Plants’ Production Limit

Oklahoma Primary Aluminum has released an economic impact study for its proposed US$4 billion primary aluminium facility in Inola, Oklahoma. The project, a joint venture between Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) and Century Aluminum, is expected to have an annual production capacity of 750,000 tonnes of primary aluminium once fully operational. According to the study, the project is expected to support around 7,000 Oklahoma jobs on average annually, with employment peaking at more than 10,600 in 2029. It is projected to add an average of US$1.45 billion per year to the state’s GDP and generate approximately US$49 billion in cumulative economic impact through 2060. The facility will use EGA’s proprietary EX reduction cell technology, while the project is also expected to support an additional US$400–500 million in regional infrastructure investment.

노벨리스는 캐나다 온타리오주 킹스턴 공장의 생산을 축소하고 약 80명의 직원을 해고한다. 이는 해당 공장 인력의 약 3분의 1에 해당한다. 회사는 이번 조치의 원인으로 미국이 캐나다산 알루미늄 수입에 부과하는 무역확장법 232조 관세 비용을 꼽았다. 킹스턴 공장은 냉간 압연, 마감 및 소둔 설비를 운영하며 해양, 운송 및 산업용 알루미늄 제품을 생산한다.

에미리트 글로벌 알루미늄(EGA)이 알 타윌라 제련소에서 E40 기술 업그레이드 파일럿을 시작했다. 13기의 DX 기술 환원 셀을 업그레이드해 1·2 포트라인의 전체 808기 DX 셀에 산업적 적용을 하기 전에 성능을 검증하는 단계다. 전체 배치 시 E40은 두 포트라인의 용융 금속 생산량을 연간 6만 7천 톤 늘리고, 순 특정 에너지 소비와 이에 따른 발전 부문 CO₂ 배출량을 생산 금속 톤당 약 6% 줄일 수 있다. EGA는 현재 진행 중인 알 타윌라 제련소 복구 작업과 병행해 파일럿을 가속하고 있다.
