China Aluminum Market to Reach Balance in 2019, SMM Predicts

SHANGHAI, Jun. 27 (SMM) – China’s aluminum market might enter a supply & demand balance by 2019 under optimistic forecast, SMM expects.

At present, the amount of aluminum capacity in operation, legal aluminum capacity waiting to come on stream and aluminum capacity to be restarted total about 41 million tonnes, SMM estimates. China’s aluminum consumption was 32.5 million tonnes, SMM data showed.

Assuming aluminum consumption growing at an annual average rate of 8.5%, the market could reach a balance by 2019.
