Chilean Copper Output Declines in April on Strike

Chilean government data showed Tuesday the country’s copper production slid 1.8% year-on-year in April due mainly to strike at the Escondida copper mine, wenhua.com reported.

SHANGHAI, Jun. 1 (SMM) - Chilean government data showed Tuesday the country’s copper production slid 1.8% year-on-year in April due mainly to strike at the Escondida copper mine, wenhua.com reported.

CSPT Members Import 834,500 tonnes of Copper Concentrate in April

Chilean copper output was 429,241 tonnes in April, compared to 436,902 tonnes in the same period of last year, according to the INE.

The 43 days strike at the Escondida mine forced its owner BHP Billiton to declare force majeure.

The country’s copper output totaled 1,636,887 tonnes in the first four months of 2017.
