SHANGHAI, May 24 (SMM) – In a bid to meet demand from China, Guinea plans to step up bauxite production over the next three years, MiningSink reported, citing the country’s mining minister.
Guinea plans to expand bauxite production to 33 million tonnes in 2017 and to 60 million tonnes by 2020.
Bauxite reserves in Guinea are about 40-41 billion tonnes, 2/3 of global reserves, according to the US Geological Survey. This figure includes 29 billion tonnes of proven reserves, ranking the first in the world.

However, bauxite output in the country is small in comparison with such huge reserves.
Bauxite output in Guinea totaled 27.61 million tonnes in 2016, making it the world’s fourth largest producer, second only to Australia, China and Brazil.
