SMM 2017 Lead & Zinc Summit: Zinc Oxide Demand to Lack Ability to Grow in 2017

Demand for zinc oxide will lack upward momentum in 2017, SMM zinc analyst predicts at the SMM 2017 Lead & Zinc Summit.

SHANGHAI, May 19 (SMM) - Demand for zinc oxide will lack upward momentum in 2017, SMM zinc analyst predicts at the SMM 2017 Lead & Zinc Summit.

Zinc consumption by zinc oxide industry will shrink.

Galvanized plate/coil is expected to grow 6.8% in 2017, and galvanized structural parts may increase 0.8%, a 2.7% decline compared to last year.

Zinc consumption by galvanizing industry is expected to rise 3.1% in 2017.

Zinc consumption by die-cast zinc alloy industry will remain steady. The average operating rate at the industry was 51.4% in the first four months of 2017, up 5.6 percentage points year-on-year. The rate in April slid 5 percentage points due to sluggish orders, and showed signs of further declines, the analyst added.
