BMR spots signs of recovery in scrap recycling sector

The recently concluded Bureau of Metal Recycling (BMR) Conference in Dubai stressed that the scrap recycling industry is showing signs of recovery across the globe.

ABU DHABI (Scrap Monster): The recently concluded Bureau of Metal Recycling (BMR) Conference in Dubai stressed that the scrap recycling industry is showing signs of recovery across the globe. However, it admitted that the industry is not without challenges. Salam Sharif, President, BMR called upon global recycling industries to join together in fighting the challenges so as to overcome times of hardships.

The 5th BMR International Conference 2016 was held at Atlantis-The Palm, Dubai from 19th to 20th, February. The Conference was attended by over 450 recycling professional and industry experts. The e3vent was attended by representatives from UAE-based environmental organizations. It was also attended by delegates from world recycling organizations including the Bureau of International Recycling (BIR), the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) and the Metal Recycling Association of India (MRAI).

The meeting highlighted the latest developments in global scrap market and the environmental issues facing the recycling industry. The eminent speakers included H.E Essa Al Hashemi from the Ministry of Environment and Water, Mrs. Habiba Al Marashi of Emirates Environmental Group, Mr. Ranjit Singh Baxi of BIR, Mr. Douglas Kramer of ISRI and Mr. Mark Hessom of Bee’ah.

Salam Sharif, while highlighting on BMR and its achievements, noted that recycling industry has a key role to play in combating the threat of global warming. There were presentations on various topics including global overview of recycling industry, Middle East and North American market dynamics and challenges. The conference also featured a special presentation on how recent changes in Chinese economic situation have impacted metals trade.
