ALBANY (Scrap Monster): According to the recent data published by the World Steel Association, the crude steel production by North American countries plunged lower by 7.6% during the month of January year-on-year. The production totaled 9.274 Mt in January this year as against 10.039 Mt recorded in Jan ’15.
The total crude steel production by Canada during January this year was 1.050 Mt, down marginally by 1.2% when compared with the January 2015 production. The US produced 6.618 Million tonnes of crude steel, considerably lower by 8.8% when compared to 7.259 Million tonnes production achieved during January 2015. The total crude steel production by Mexico edged lower by 9.0% from 1.631 Mt in January ‘15 to 1.485 Mt in January this year.
The Cuban crude steel production increased sharply by 68.2% year-on-year to 30,000 tonnes. The crude steel output by El Salvador was estimated at 13,000 tonnes in January this year, up 62.5% when compared with January last year. Guatemala produced 43,000 tonnes in January,significantly higher by over 65% when compared with the production during the same month a year before. The crude steel output by Trinidad & Tobago increased slightly by 3.5% in January this year to 35,000 tonnes from 34,000 tonnes during same month the previous year.
