World crude steel production drops 3.1% in October

BRUSSELS (Scrap Monster): According to the most recent statistics published by the World Steel Association, the crude steel production by 66 member countries was 133.640 million tonnes (Mt) in October this year, down 3.1% upon comparison with production of 137.942 Mt during same month a year before.

The total crude steel production by EU-28 countries during October this year was 14.191 Million tonnes (Mt), sharply down by 3.8% than the October 2014 production of 14.754 Mt. Other European countries produced 2.996 Million tonnes of crude steel, up by nearly 3% when compared to 2.909 Million tonnes production achieved during October 2014. The CIS countries’ crude steel production dropped marginally by 0.7% from 8.341 Mt to 8.284 Mt. The total crude steel production by North America declined sharply by 6.1% from 10.231 Mt in October 2014 to 9.606 Mt in October this year.

The total crude steel production by South American region during October this year dropped by 2.5% to 3.961 Mt. African countries produced 1.096 Million tonnes of crude steel, marginally lower by 1.5% when compared to 1.113 Million tonnes production achieved during October 2014. The total crude steel production by the Middle East countries during October this year was 2.267 Million tonnes(Mt), lower by 8.9% when compared with the October 2014 output of 2.490 Mt. The Asian countries’ crude steel production dropped by 3.0% from 93.530 Mt to 90.737 Mt. The total crude steel production by Oceania region dropped by 2.5% from 0.513 Mt in October 2014 to 0.501 Mt in October this year.

The following table provides cumulative crude steel output for the first ten months in 2015 in comparison with those during same period in 2014.
