WSA Report publishes global scrap exports data for ten years

SPOKANE (Scrap Monster): The World Steel Association has published the Steel Statistical Year Book 2015 which features the steel activity during the past decade. Included in the Year Book is the detailed statistics of steel scrap trade during the ten year period from 2005 to 2014. The world steel scrap exports totaled 94.332 Mt in 2014, higher by 5.8% when matched with the exports of 89.127 Mt recorded ten years back.

The steel scrap exports by EU-28 countries in 2014 was 45.577 Million tonnes (Mt), higher by almost 25% when matched with the exports of 36.333 Mt in 2005. Other European countries too witnessed sharp jump in scrap export trade from 1.242 Mt in 2002 to 1.784 Mt in 2014. The scrap exports by CIS region dropped sharply during the ten-year period. The exports by the region plunged heavily from 17 Mt in 2005 to 6.751 Mt in 2014.

The scrap exports by North American region witnessed significant jump from 16.608 Mt in 2005 to 21.511 Mt in 2014. The South American scrap exports more than tripled from 329,000 tons to 1.189 Mt in 2014. African scrap exports held steady over the ten-year period. Middle East scrap exports increased from 1.749 Mt in 2005 to 2.022 Mt in 2014. Asian region reported drop in scrap exports. The exports by the region totaled 10.453 Mt in 2014, when matched with 12.147 Mt in 2005. The scrap exports by Oceania region almost doubled during this period.
