[SMM Coking Coal and Coke Daily Brief] News side, market rumors suggested that coke would initiate a sixth round of price increases, with wet-quenched coke rising by 50 yuan/mt and dry-quenched coke rising by 55 yuan/mt, effective from 00:00 on June 8, 2026. In terms of supply, coking coal supply remained persistently tight, and some coking enterprises passively reduced production. Meanwhile, coking enterprises saw smooth shipments, with in-plant coke inventory mostly at low levels. Demand side, hot metal production of steel mill blast furnaces remained at high levels, supporting strong rigid demand for coke. Coking coal market:

Linfen low-sulphur coking coal was quoted at 1,800 yuan/mt.

Coking coal side, the June safety month combined with coal mine accidents in Shanxi made it difficult for mine production to be released. Most coal grades saw notable price increases in online auctions, and the coking coal market may continue to hold up well in the short term.

Coke market:

The nationwide average price of quasi-first-grade metallurgical coke (CDQ) was 1,870 yuan/mt.

China Steel Market Export : [Sheets & Plates] Today, HRC export prices continued to decline by 2 USD/tonne on a daily basis, with transaction prices at 496-504 USD/tonne. Domestic futures fell, and market inquiry activity weakened somewhat. As the southwest successively entered the rainy season with electricity prices adjusted downward, a small number of silicon enterprises resumed production or increased operations, but the pace of production release was relatively slow. Cost side, although southwestern rainy season costs were periodically adjusted downward, current regional costs remained higher than those of northern silicon enterprises in production. Therefore, rising silicon coal raw material prices provided strong cost support below silicon metal prices, while prices above were constrained by the supply-demand relationship.
