Demand Remained Weak Entering June, Spot Trading Was Sluggish [SMM North China Spot Copper]

Today, #1 copper cathode spot prices in North China against the front-month contract were reported at an average discount of 360 yuan/mt to a discount of 280 yuan/mt, with the average discount of 320 yuan/mt up 10 yuan/mt from the previous trading day. The average transaction price was 104,515 yuan/mt, down 15 yuan/mt from the previous trading day.

Today, #1 copper cathode spot prices against the front-month contract in North China were reported at an average discount of 360 yuan/mt to a discount of 280 yuan/mt, with the average discount at 320 yuan/mt, up 10 yuan/mt from the previous trading day. The average transaction price was 104,515 yuan/mt, down 15 yuan/mt from the previous trading day. Entering June, downstream consumption continued to be weak. Under the significant discount environment, some cargoes moved south, and spot copper transactions in the North China market were sluggish. Today, the copper cathode procurement sentiment in North China was 1.33, down 0.02 from the previous trading day, and the shipments sentiment was 2.01, down 0.26 from the previous trading day ().

Suppliers are expected to significantly raise their quotes accordingly. In terms of market performance, as copper prices remain at a relatively high level, after suppliers raise their quotes, downstream enterprises' willingness to chase higher prices remains limited. Some transactions are expected to occur after consecutive quote reductions, with coexisting willingness to hold prices firm and to cut prices for shipments. Overall, amid the tug-of-war between partial release of early-month procurement demand and high-price suppression, spot prices against the SHFE copper 2606 contract are expected to remain at a discount tomorrow.
