[SMM Hot-Rolled Steel Arrivals] Holiday Period Sees Significant Increase in Arrivals at Mainstream Markets

SMM Steel, February 24 – According to SMM statistics, the estimated total shipments to mainstream markets this week reached 302,700 mt, up 50.90% WoW. By market:

SMM Steel, February 24 – According to SMM statistics, the estimated total shipments to mainstream markets this week reached 302,700 mt, up 50.90% WoW. By market:

Shanghai Market: Shipment levels increased slightly during and immediately after the holiday. Shipments from steel mills in Northeast and East China remained stable, with the main increase coming from mainstream mills in South China. Short-term, as demand gradually picks up starting this week, steel mill shipments are expected to increase slightly further.

Lecong Market: Shipments to Lecong increased significantly WoW. Specifically, shipments from North China increased slightly, while shipments from some local mainstream mills rose noticeably due to constrained export orders and maintained normal production during the holiday. Going forward, overall shipment levels are expected to gradually return to normal after the holiday, with some downside room MoM.

The measure applies to specific flat-rolled steel products (alloy or non-alloy), with thicknesses of 1.2–25.4mm and widths between 1,880mm and 2,300mm, that have not been further processed beyond hot rolling.

Today, the DCE iron ore fluctuated in the doldrums, with the most-traded contract I2605 eventually closing at 799.5 yuan/mt, down 0.50% from the previous trading session. Spot prices fell by about 2-5 yuan from the previous trading day. Traders were moderately active in offering quotes, while steel mills mainly restocked to meet rigid demand; as of now, spot market transactions were mediocre.

[SMM Daily Hot-Rolled Coil Trading] On April 3, the total daily trading volume of hot-rolled coil at sample enterprises in four SMM cities (Shanghai, Lecong, Tianjin, and Ningbo) was 14,410 mt, down 70 mt day on day, or 0.5%, up 30.71% YoY on a calendar basis and up 12.31% YoY on a lunar calendar basis.
