【SMM New Energy News】World's largest hybrid pumped-storage plant achieves key breakthroughs
On February 22, 2026, the Yalong River Lianghekou hybrid pumped-storage power station, located at an altitude of 3,000 meters on the western Sichuan plateau, achieved dual breakthroughs with the successful completion of underground powerhouse excavation and the start of concrete pouring for the downstream reservoir. With a total installed capacity of 4.2 GW, the project is dubbed a "super power bank" for plateau green energy. Once completed, it can absorb about 7 GW of renewable energy, providing massive double peak-shaving capacity for the grid.
