Permag™ Invests to Expand Domestic Samarium Cobalt Magnet Manufacturing

Permag™ recently announced a major expansion of its Electron Energy Corporation (EEC) manufacturing facility in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, aimed at boosting domestic production capacity of samarium cobalt (SmCo) magnets and ensuring a secure, stable, and sustainable supply of critical magnetic materials. As the only U.S.-based producer of SmCo magnets, Permag is investing several million dollars in this project, which will more than double its current production capacity. The expansion includes the installation of advanced alloying, pressing, and machining equipment to better serve key industries such as aerospace, defense, semiconductors, medical, and industrial sectors. It will also enhance the capabilities of its affiliated companies, Dexter Magnetic Technologies and Magnetic Component Engineering. Additionally, Permag is actively working toward compliance with DFARS 252.225-7052 for both neodymium-iron-boron (NdFeB) and SmCo magnets, with plans to achieve this by mid-2026—well ahead of the January 1, 2027 regulatory deadline.
