Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On June 26, XPENG Motors officially put its global flagship all-electric MPV, the XPENG X9, onto the Indonesian market, starting at IDR 990 million (approximately 437,000 yuan).

At the same time, XPENG announced that the right-hand-drive version of the X9 will begin local production in Jakarta in July 2025. This marks XPENG's first overseas localized manufacturing initiative and a key milestone in the company's international expansion strategy.

According to data from the Association of Indonesia Automotive Industry, electric vehicle (EV) sales in Indonesia exceeded 43,000 units in 2024, representing a year-on-year surge of 150%. The Indonesian government aims to produce 400,000 EVs in 2025 and scale that number to 1 million by 2035. A series of pro-EV policies further strengthen the appeal of the market for Chinese new energy automakers like XPENG.

As XPENG's first overseas manufacturing hub, the Indonesian facility targets Southeast Asia's largest auto market. With the region's largest population and annual vehicle sales potential in the millions, Indonesia is a strategic entry point for XPENG's broader regional ambitions.

Looking ahead, XPENG plans to enter more than 60 international markets by 2025 and targets overseas sales to account for 50% of its total volume within the next decade.

[SMM Analysis] Korea’s Automotive Industry: 2030 Competitiveness Depends on EV Transition Execution
Korea’s auto industry maintained solid exports and production in 2025, but its 2030 competitiveness will depend on EV transition execution. The domestic market has matured, while hybrids have become a defensive pillar. EV adoption remains below the government’s target, and U.S.-EU policy pressure and Chinese EV competition are reshaping export strategies. Future competitiveness will hinge on pricing, localization, battery sourcing, and charging and safety confidence.
