Shanghai (Gasgoo)- GAC AION, a Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturer under GAC Group, recorded global sales of 14,393 vehicles in January 2025, reflecting a sharp year-on-year and month-on-month decline of 42.31% and 69.28%, respectively.

GAC AION is set to put the AION UT, a compact pure electric hatchback, onto the market at the end of February. Pre-sales of the model commenced in early January this year. The vehicle is available in three variants, with pre-sale prices ranging from 89,800 yuan to 109,800 yuan.

Design-wise, the AION UT adopts AION's latest design language. Its front fascia features a closed low-drag grille flanked by angular LED headlights. The lower front bumper is designed with matrix-style lighting units on both sides, enhancing its visual distinction.

The side profile emphasizes a sleek and streamlined design, with a dual-tone body, low-resistance two-tone wheels, and semi-hidden door handles.

At the rear, the AION UT offers streamlined matrix taillights, echoing the front's lighting motif.

As for the size, the model measures 4,270mm in length, 1,850mm in width, and 1,575mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,750mm.

Inside, the model adopts a minimalist design, featuring an 8.8-inch floating liquid crystal instrument panel and a 14.6-inch central touchscreen. The car supports major mobile connectivity ecosystems, including the HiCar, the CarLink, and the CarPlay. Powered by a cloud-based AI large model, the voice assistant enables rapid control over navigation, seating adjustments, air conditioning settings, defrost, and defog functions. The model includes a two-tone leather-wrapped steering wheel and a column-mounted gear shifter.

Practicality-wise, the model features a wireless charging pad, cup holders, and electrically adjustable seats. It also offers 440 liters of truck space, which can expand to 1,600 liters with the rear seats folded.

Under the hood, powering the AION UT is a 100kW electric motor, with a top speed of 150 km/h. The model is paired with a 44 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack, which offers a CLTC-rated range of 420 km.

[Automotive: Toyota Decides To Halt Development Of Certain Models]
Toyota Motor Corporation has decided to halt the development of its next-generation battery electric vehicles, specifically targeting a sedan model for its luxury brand Lexus that was originally planned to commence production in mid-2027. This vehicle, featuring fast-charging capabilities and longer cruising range, was showcased at the Japan Mobility Show in October 2023. Initially planned for market launch in 2026, its production start was later postponed to 2027. Over the past year, Toyota's global electric vehicle sales exceeded 190,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 42.4%. However, the decision by the Trump administration in the US to eliminate tax incentives for electric vehicle purchases has created adverse market conditions.
