Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On September 23, the 2 millionth Buick GL8 produced in China, a GL8 PHEV, rolled off the production line at SAIC-GM's luxury car plant in Jinqiao, Shanghai, and the significant vehicle has been delivered to its user. This milestone marks the Buick GL8 as the first model series in China's premium MPV market to surpass the 2-million-unit mark in both production and sales.

A long-standing leader in the domestic MPV segment, the Buick GL8 has set a benchmark for sales and quality. As one of the most successful models under the Buick brand in China, the GL8 has earned a legendary status in the country's MPV market. Since its debut 25 years ago, the GL8 has grown alongside China's economic development, market evolution, and industrial progress.

At the event, SAIC-GM announced that since the GL8 PHEV hitting the market in April this year, over 30,000 units have been sold. The vehicle boasts impressive dimensions—5,219mm in length, 1,878mm in width, and 1,807mm in height—offering excellent space efficiency with easy access to the third row. It is powered by Buick's latest PHEV technology, delivering a combined range of over 1,000 kilometers in real tests. Luxury features such as a lighted welcome mat, auto-retracting door handles, Nappa leather interiors, 13mm Australian wool floor mats, a refrigerated island console, and a 15.6-inch rear smart screen create an opulent passenger experience.

In response to common concerns and pain points raised by MPV users, Buick has applied its extensive experience and General Motors' highest manufacturing standards to develop the “Eight Golden Standards” for MPVs. These standards focus on eight key dimensions: smooth, shake-free rides in all conditions; comprehensive safety throughout every journey; consistent performance whether fully charged or low on battery; 101 ergonomic seat tests; accessible third-row seating; a highly refined and luxurious experience; the highest residual value among domestic MPVs; and 25 years of luxury MPV production expertise.

Additionally, Buick unveiled its ground-breaking OMPV (Organic Mobile Private Villa) concept MPV at the event. The OMPV showcases Buick’s forward-looking vision for the future of MPVs, offering consumers an unprecedented multi-sensory experience. The concept vehicle features an organic aesthetic and more dynamic design elements, with both plug-in hybrid and fully electric powertrain options, signaling the next evolution in the MPV market.
