Fundamentally, the structural gap of manganese ore has not improved. Current port inventories are at a two-year low, with Tianjin Port holding a total of 1.0931 million mt of high-grade manganese oxide ore from Gabon, Australia, and Brazil. With no other ore types to replace and no increase in port arrivals, the high-grade oxide ore inventory at ports may be depleted by the end of August, which strengthened the sentiment of suppliers to keep prices firm and hold back. However, SiMn alloy inventories remained high. End-user steel demand entered the off-season, while SiMn alloy supply increased. Factories significantly pressed down on procurement prices of manganese ore. The upstream and downstream were in a deadlock, and the manganese ore market remained uncertain.
If downstream steel demand weakens, SiMn production is reduced, and non-Australian manganese ore supply increases, the supply gap for manganese ore may be disproven, making it difficult for SiMn alloy to sustain high prices. Additionally, a large number of unutilized liquidity warrants also pose potential pressure. However, manganese ore supply shortage remained unresolved. With the recent weakening macro sentiment, the short-term manganese ore market may continue to fluctuate downward.
