Nissan plans to produce lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries for electric vehicles and expects to start shipping to emerging markets from the 2026 fiscal year.

Nissan plans to produce lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries for electric vehicles and expects to start shipping to emerging markets from the 2026 fiscal year. Nissan is currently developing LFP batteries at its research and development institution in Atsugi, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. In addition to Nissan, Korean companies LG Energy Solution and SK On, Samsung SDI, as well as European and American battery and car manufacturers such as Our Next Energy, ElevenEs, Volkswagen, BMW, and Stellina, are also increasing their efforts in the layout of lithium iron phosphate batteries. With more and more companies joining the race for lithium iron phosphate, its market share is expected to further increase.
