Chinese RMB’s Share in International Reserves Seen Increasing through the End of 2030

Aside from geo-risk factors, gold is seen as an effective hedge against high inflation - a top concern for more than 70% of respondents.

Gold prices are currently trading near all-time nominal highs following a surge in global inflation in 2022.

A majority of respondents also said that Chinese RMB’s share of international reserves will increase in the remainder of the period to the end of 2030.

According to IMF data, in the fourth quarter of last year, the US dollar accounted for 58% of the total foreign exchange reserves of central banks, the euro accounted for a little more than 20%, and the Chinese RMB accounted for about 2.7%.
