Japan is poised to sharply boost spending on chips to boost its position in the global semiconductor market. According to the Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI), Japan is expected to invest $7 billion in fab equipment next year, an increase of 82% from 2022 and the largest increase in the world. The Taiwan region of China is still the largest procurement region for chip manufacturing equipment, and the investment is expected to reach $24.9 billion in 2024.
