SHANGHAI, Mar 2 (SMM) - According to SMM statistics, Chinese polysilicon supply was about 101,200 mt in February, a decrease of 1.6% from January.
The reasons for the MoM declines are as follows. 1. A leading producer carried out maintenance in February, and the output dropped about 1,000-2,000 mt. 2. There were fewer production days in February. The average daily polysilicon output in January was about 3,300 my, while that in February stood at about 3,600 mt. In addition, factors such as the early COVID-19 outbreak and Chinese New Year postponed the commissioning of some production lines in the first quarter, and almost no new production capacity was added in January and February.
The polysilicon supply is expected to grow further in March with the production ramp-up of new capacity
10,000 owned by GCL and Runyang and the increase in production days in the month. However, the output growth will be curbed by the maintenance of a polysilicon company in Xinjiang and the equipment upgrades carried out by some producers, and the corresponding output loss will be about 105,000 mt. According to the current silicon wafer production schedules, the consumption of polysilicon in March is about 95,000 mt, thus the polysilicon market will still see a supply surplus.
