SHANGHAI, Feb 10 (SMM) - China's electrolyte output stood at 53,810 mt in January 2023, down 26% MoM and up 10% YoY, according to SMM survey.
In terms of demand, January is usually the off season, and the accumulated inventory of car makers and battery cell producers this year also weighed on the demand for battery cell. Some battery cell producers were closed for the first time during the Chinese New Year (CNY) holiday. The sharp decline in the production schedules of the battery industry thus took a heavy toll on the demand for electrolyte.
On supply side, the first- and second tier electrolyte manufacturers still maintained operation during the CNY holiday, but small enterprises were mostly shut down and took a longer holiday. Therefore, the output of the latter were rather small in January.
In February, the market expectation for output has turned positive fuelled by the stockpiling activity on rigid demand. The output is estimated at 62,262 mt, up by 16%.
