SHANGHAI, Jul 27 (SMM) - The customs inspection of imported aluminium scrap has been relaxed since late June. According to the latest customs data, in June 2022, 124,600 mt of aluminium scrap were imported, an increase of 220.3% year-on-year and a month-on-month increase of 23.67%. Imports in the first six months of 2022 totalled 630,400 mt, a year-on-year increase of 55%.
Among them, the imports with processing trade stood at 8,500 mt, which was 4,300 mt less than that in May, mainly due to less goods originating from the United States.
In detail, the imports with general trade registered in Guangdong Province in June were 80,500 mt, accounting for 64.58% of the total imported scrap, and that with processing trade stood at 6,200 mt, accounting for 7.12% of the total. The import volume with general trade registered in Zhejiang Province was 17,200 mt, accounting for 13.83% of the total scrap imports in June, and that with processing trade was 2,300 mt, accounting for 1.87%. The imports with general trade registered in other provinces totalled 18,400 mt, accounting for 14.77% of the total imports in June.
On the whole, the supply of domestic aluminium scrap was quite tight in June, while the customs relaxed its inspection of imported aluminium scrap. On the other hand, the backlog of orders from March to May this year was also released in June. Therefore, the volume of imported scrap increased significantly in June. Since the domestic supply of aluminium scrap has been low recently, it is believed that the volume of aluminium scrap imports will remain stable in July and August.
