SHANGHAI, Apr 7 - The Provincial People's Government of Yunnan recently issued a three-year action plan for the development of new energy battery industry (2022-2024), according to which the province strive to achieve an output value of 20 billion yuan, 50 billion yuan and 100 billion yuan respectively by 2022, 2023 and 2024, with an average annual increase in output value of more than 100%.
The advantages of the new energy battery industry to be developed in Yunnan Province include rich reserves of resources such as lithium and phosphate ore, and the abundance of green energy like hydropower.
Because of this, the plan proposes to focus on new energy battery materials. And by 2024, the scale of the key materials industry for new energy batteries will grow significantly, with a steady increase in the market share of LFP materials, high-nickel and manganese-based cathode active materials and wet-process separator, and the formation of production capacity of 1 million mt of cathode active materials, 500,000 mt of anode materials, 1.5 billion square metres of battery separator, 200,000 mt of electrolyte, and 90,000 mt of copper foil.
Cathode active materials will be the key product for Yunnan Province in the future. The plan says that the province's phosphorus and manganese chemical industry advantages will be brought into play, and the development of phosphorus and manganese-based cathode active materials will be an important step in promoting the fine chemical industry chain, with a focus on developing lithium iron phosphate, lithium manganese phosphate, lithium manganese iron phosphate, ternary (nickel-cobalt-manganese) and other cathode active materials.
