[Ganfeng Lithium Industry was certified by "carbon label" as a new attempt to save energy and reduce carbon in the new energy industry. On October 11, 2021, Ganfeng Lithium Industry's product "lithium hydroxide monohydrate" passed the carbon label certification, becoming the first lithium company in China to obtain a "carbon label". "carbon label" is to quantify the greenhouse gas emissions in the production process into standard data, which is counted and verified by professional institutions, certified and awarded to enterprises.

On October 11, 2021, Ganfeng Lithium Industry's product "lithium hydroxide monohydrate" passed the carbon label certification and became the first lithium company in China to obtain a "carbon label".

"carbon label" is to quantify the greenhouse gas emissions in the production process into standard data, which is counted and verified by professional institutions, certified and awarded to enterprises.

Lithium hydroxide monohydrate is certified by carbon label, which will contribute to the carbon emission statistics of electric vehicles and other new energy products in the whole life cycle, and can be targeted to reduce carbon in important links, so as to achieve energy saving and emission reduction in the whole new energy industry.

Carbon footprint verification covering the whole production process

The carbon dioxide accounting range of Ganfeng lithium hydroxide monohydrate products is "from cradle to gate (Cradle-to-Gate)", that is, carbon dioxide produced in the whole process from raw material mining to product production and packaging.

In order to obtain more accurate emission data, relevant agencies conduct statistical verification of carbon emission data of lithium hydroxide monohydrate (spodumene and other raw materials and supporting products such as packaging bags), transportation of raw and auxiliary materials, production and manufacturing of lithium hydroxide monohydrate products, waste disposal stage and other carbon emission data, covering all aspects from mining to production.

The head of the Ganfeng carbon emissions working group said: "through this carbon footprint verification, we know more about the carbon emission data of each link and determine the direction with the most potential for emission reduction. To this end, the company has also begun to prepare a series of measures to reduce the carbon footprint of various lithium products."

Exploring the way of carbon neutralization in New Energy Industry

Lithium hydroxide is one of the core raw materials of power battery.

The main raw material of Ganfeng lithium hydroxide is spodumene mined in Australia. After a long transportation, it is produced, processed, packaged and sold in Jiangxi Xinyu Mahon factory. The complete process also involves many kinds of auxiliary materials, such as liquid alkali and sulfuric acid, which are also transported in batches after being produced and manufactured in various places.

Raw materials come from Australian spodumene ore.

It is precisely because of the internationalization and fragmentation of the raw material supply chain that it is difficult to quantify the carbon emissions of the upstream industry of new energy, which makes it difficult to accurately calculate the carbon footprint of the whole new energy industry. As an upstream enterprise in the new energy industry, Ganfeng has an annual production capacity of 81000 tons of lithium hydroxide, including a number of world-renowned car companies, battery factories and material factories. In Gan Feng's view, it is his duty to confirm carbon emissions data from the source of the industry.

Certifying carbon labels and accounting for carbon emissions from cradle to gate (Cradle-to-Gate) life cycle is an attempt made by Ganfeng to promote the transparency and standardization of new energy carbon footprint. If end consumers and downstream enterprises are more inclined to choose more low-carbon upstream products, they can force the supply chain to save energy and reduce emissions and complete the green upgrading of the new energy industry chain.

Achieving carbon neutralization is a step-by-step process. In the future, Ganfeng Lithium Industry will seek more ways to reduce carbon, provide more low-carbon quality products and services, and join hands with upstream and downstream partners to achieve the dual-carbon goal.
