SMM News: like Tesla, Huawei also uses ternary lithium battery as the power technology choice of its smart car.

BU (IASBU), Huawei's smart car solution, and BG IRB, its consumer business, completed business restructuring on Nov. 25, with the management of the business under the control of the Huawei Consumer Business Management Committee. Among them, after the reorganization of consumer business BG IRB, it is renamed intelligent terminal and intelligent automobile parts IRB, which is mainly responsible for the investment decision-making and portfolio management of intelligent automobile parts business.

On December 2, a reporter from Science and Technology Innovation Board Daily exclusively learned that Huawei's power battery technology for smart car parts chooses the same ternary lithium battery as Tesla.

The reporter noted that on June 22 this year, Changan Automobile said: "the company's new energy vehicle batteries mainly use ternary lithium batteries, and the main suppliers are Zhejiang Wanxiang, LG, CATL (Ningde Times), and so on."

On November 14, Zhu Huarong, chairman of Changan Automobile, publicly announced that Changan Automobile would join hands with Huawei and Ningde Times to build a high-end smart car brand.

A reporter from Science and Technology Innovation Board Daily learned that the cooperation between Huawei and Changan Automobile is true. Although Huawei recently reiterated that it will not build a complete vehicle, it does not affect Huawei's use of ternary lithium batteries as the power battery technology for its smart car components.

"Tesla uses Panasonic's ternary lithium battery, but the key factor leading its power system is not only Panasonic's leading ternary battery stability and unity technology, but also Tesla's unique power management system." An investor who has long observed the direction of power battery technology in the new energy vehicle industry told reporters, "the ternary battery technology in Ningde era is not as good as Panasonic."

It is still unclear whether Huawei will develop a power battery management system.

The investor told reporters, "(power battery management system) software is the most important, because the battery is connected in series, this system can detect whether there is something wrong with the battery." This is a guarantee to improve battery life and safety. "

People in the new energy battery power supply chain told reporters, "the ternary lithium battery technology in Ningde era is not as good as Panasonic, Huawei and Ningde era also have cooperation, but it is a last resort."

Does Huawei use 811 ternary lithium battery, and which type of energy density does Huawei use? The above investors told reporters, "now Huawei smart car is just beginning, battery technology is still in its infancy, and the details are not clear yet."

The so-called "811" means that the proportion of nickel, cobalt and aluminum or nickel, cobalt and manganese in the cathode material is 8:1:1. "from the point of view of safety and efficiency, the best ratio at present is 811, compared with 622 before," the investor told Science and Technology Innovation Board Daily. "

In terms of energy density, Tesla uses Panasonic 21700 ternary lithium battery (which was mass-produced in 2018), and its energy density is about 300Whamp kg, which just meets the energy density requirements of new energy vehicles established by China in 2020.
